Riverview East Academy Parent Center The Coordinator aids both parents and students with applications, paperwork, and questions concerning emergency services, the school, and additional resources. The Coordinator hosts sessions and special programs for families at Riverview East Academy.
Senior Services The Senior Program at Findlay Street Neighborhood House has weekly exercise, bingo, and health & nutrition speakers making presentations to the group. Seniors also receive weekly blood pressure screenings through a partnership with the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing.
Victims of Crime The program serves 2000 individuals annually and provides assistance to individuals who are victims of crime. Securing support services, helping to complete the victim’s compensation application, escorting victims to court and providing counseling are all a part of services offered. Group counseling sessions are also available for clients.
Computer Class Held 6 days a week, the computer class is open to adults and high school students. The class teaches basic computer skills, how to utilize the internet, social media, resume' writing, and online job and college applications. The classes are held Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
Success Through Empowerment Programs and Services (STEPS) STEPS is a combination of our Summer Camp, After School Program, Arts Access Initiative, and Athletic Programs. The combination of these programs and services provide children and youth with year round opportunities to develop, grow, and achieve in a nurturing and structured environment. Over 300 children and youth are served through this program annually.
Summer Day Camp Summer Day Camp offers working parents full day care during summer months. Children participate in daily activities that include weekly field trips, arts and crafts, physical education and tutoring. In addition, children receive breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch is provided through the Cincinnati Public School summer food program and dinner is provided as a part of the Kids Café program. The summer day camp program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for 9 weeks between June and August. The program serves 50 children between the ages of 6 and 13.
Findlay Street After School Program Findlay Street Neighborhood House has historically served as a Safe Haven in the West End where youth can engage in positive activities. Computer Training, Teen Center and the Gym are open daily giving youth opportunities to engage in activities with the support of carrying adults. Our current after school program has 40 youth ranging from the ages of 6 to 16. These students have the opportunity to receive homework assistance and tutoring. The youth receive lessons in health and nutrition. They have use of our computer lab to develop their computer skills and to complete homework assignments. A snack and dinner are served each day throughout the school year.
Findlay Street Athletic Program The Findlay Street Wildcats are sports teams operating through Findlay Street Neighborhood House. These programs include Karate, Football, Baseball, Basketball and Boxing. The Neighborhood House hosts weekly karate classes for youth and adults. Our baseball league is available for youth between the ages of 4 and 13. Boxing is available for adults and youth 5 days a week. Basketball for adults and youth is also held throughout the week in the Findlay Street Gym. Our athletic program served over 350 youth and adults in 2010.
Arts Access Initiative This program’s purpose is to bring back the arts to the West End. The Initiative will include performing arts: dance, music, visual arts, and media and film production. AAI is open to children and youth of the West End. Classes are held on Tuesday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and Saturdays from 12:00pm until 2:00pm throughout the school year and through the Summer Day Camp during the summer months.
Emergency Assistance The pantry is maintained at Findlay Street Neighborhood House and food is dispensed daily to the homeless and others in need of immediate assistance with food. Other emergency assistance include, making referrals to assist with securing funds for rent, utilities and other basic necessities. All families who participate in other services are eligible for this assistance. Families also received help during the holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas food bags. Selected families participate in the Adopt a Family for Christmas program which is generally funded in total by St. Barnabas Church. Victims of Crime victims also receive assistance through our Emergency Assistance Program. Over 500 individuals and families received emergency food or holiday assistance in 2010.
Drug Prevention Program The purpose of the program is to mentor, develop, and train a group of youth to present a drug prevention message to approximately 200 children. These youth will be responsible for mentoring, tutoring, and working with children to encourage them to abstain from drug use and to choose positive things in life. The Teen Advocates will work with groups from Hays Porter, WEB Dubois Academy, Findlay Street Sports Programs, and the Summer Day Camp. Teen Advocates must maintain exemplary behavior in their school, home, and community.
Success in Sports and Beyond This program is a collaborative between Seven Hills and students from the University of Cincinnati. Students spend Saturday afternoons introducing children from Seven Hills to a variety of sports not normally available in their community. Student Athletes speak to the students about their sport and their majors in school. They then provide demonstrations and opportunities for the children to try out various sports. Children from the center visit the University of Cincinnati, have lunch in the cafeteria, attend sporting events, and have the opportunity to tour the campus. |
